Crispy Sweet Potatoes with Dairy-Free Green Goddess - Danielle Walker Crispy Potatoes with Dairy-Free Green Goddess

Potatoes are a can’t-live-without food for me. When I first figured out I wasn’t tolerating regular white potatoes, I was wary if the sweet variety would fill the gap of my beloved starch. I have grown to love the different varieties of sweet potatoes and yams and their versatility. For this recipe, Crispy Potatoes with Dairy-Free Green Goddess, I am using the Hannah variety, which are a mild, white-fleshed type, but you can use whatever you like, including regular potatoes if they work for you!

Sweet Potatoes Gone Savory

I grew up on regular potatoes, like so many of us, and knew which ones to use for mashed potatoes, for potato salad, and even baked potato night.  Making the switch to sweet potatoes was a bit of a learning curve for me, but I eventually got the hang of the different tastes and textures and when to use which type.

Truly, there’s no wrong answer when it comes to what sweet potato variety would be delicious in today’s recipe, and I promise you won’t miss Russets in the slightest! I chose the Hannah variety because its texture and subtle sweetness is the perfect pairing to the real hero of this recipe: my very own FRIES seasoning blend!

FRIES Seasoning blend

I love a good seasoning blend, and it can make or break a dish, but I found that it was really hard to find seasoning blends that were organic and gluten-free. So many of my favorite seasonings contained ingredients that I could not have.  While you absolutely can gather the individual ingredients to make a blend of your own, I know we don’t all have that kind of time on our hands!

My “Fries” seasoning blend is a nod to one of my favorite restaurants when I was a kid who had a big shaker of seasoning on the table, and I poured it generously over the basket of fries.  The Smoked  Paprika gives it the right amount of smokiness, and paired with herbs like basil, sage, and oregano, the flavor profile is robust and the perfect amount of salt.

All of my seasoning blends are Certified Organic, Gluten Free, and SCD friendly with no hidden starches, so you can trust what you are sprinkling on your food.

Green Goddess Dressing

Anytime I can make a sauce from scratch, I’m going to do it. Not only does it cost a fraction of store-bought ones, but you can’t match the flavors that fresh herbs provide. My Green Goddess Dressing is the best combination of slightly tart with a creamy texture, a hint of lemon, and an explosion of flavor from the fresh herbs. I use dill, tarragon, parsley, basil, and mint. And it’s a great dipping sauce for this Crispy Potatoes with Dairy-Free Green Goddess.

I almost never make it without doubling or tripling the recipe and then using it throughout the week. It is wonderful on a salad, but also on my  Crispy Green Goddess Salmon with Broccolini, Potatoes, and Arugula, from my newest cookbook (available now!), Make it Easy.
